Dutch Hormone Test- Hormone testing and what it can tell you!
There are few things more disempowering than feeling like you’re just gonna have to learn how to live with your hormonal imbalance.
If your hormones are out of control and nothing you’ve tried has resolved it you might want to consider the DUTCH hormone test.
Let me tell you more about how this can really start to change the way you see your hormonal health…
What is the DUTCH hormone test?
This is a very accurate urine test that can tell us a lot more than a standard hormone blood test.
While the collection is very simple to do – urine collection, in the comfort of your home (processed through a US lab called Precision Analytical Inc.)
This test provides a very in-depth look at many of your key hormones, including sex hormones, oxidative stress markers that also contribute to mood disorders, and very importantly can provide us with a snap shot of what’s happening on a bio-chemical level in your body.
Why is this important?
Because the same condition can present in many different ways in different women. For example PCOS not every woman will present with insulin resistance or elevated androgens. So in order to support you effectively we need to understand what are the hormone levels? and where should we focus our attention for better outcomes?
The DUTCH hormone test allows us to essentially individualise the nutritional and herbal approach and tailor it for you.
What else does it show?…
Stress hormones- key for all mood imbalances but also key for understanding your ability to heal and recover from illness.
Melatonin, cortisol- Insights into your circadian rhythm which is important for understanding barriers to health and healing. Your cycle is significantly influenced by your circadian rhythm.
Shows ALL of your hormones: estrogen, progesterone, testosterone and their metabolites
Types of estrogen and which pathways estrogen is taking: This is important if there is a family history of oestrogen dependant cancers helping us to understand the non- proliferative pathways or the ‘bad’ pro-mutagenic pathways. Also useful in menopause, and fertility, cycle issues.
The insights gained from this test are extensive and can provide a significant benchmark for tracking your progress over time.
Who should be tested?
If you struggle with the following it may be helpful to have the DUTCH test:
Mood issues- feeling out of control or unstable
Anxiety or depression
PCOS
Infertility
Period irregularities- cycles that are out of whack, heavy bleeds, painful etc
Low libido
Hair loss
Low energy, low mood, difficulty with getting up in the morning
Insomnia or waking in the middle of the night
Peri-menopause and menopause- Symptoms associated with this transition.
History or oestrogen dominant cancers in the family.
Memory or attention issues
Weight management issues- constant yo-yoing or stubborn weight that makes you feel like if you look at food you’ll put on kgs.
Why bother with a hormone imbalance test?
We’re now living in an environment where we’re surrounded by endocrine disruptors.
Synthetic chemicals like BPA’s, phthalates, and heavy metals are disrupting the natural balance of hormones in the body.
For a long while now the focus has been on treating the disease that a person has and this is slowly changing as we’re starting to appreciate that to really bring the body back into balance and allow it to heal we need to:
Remove the cause of the imbalance in order to do this we need to
Know that that cause is and in order to do this we need to
Test.
From this stand point we can apply the right nutritional support, behavioural modifications and supplements/ herbal medicine to get you back in control.
You can spend years struggling with conditions and never fully appreciating that there are things you can do and change that will have a huge impact on how you feel.
